Mac Barnett was born in 1973 in Albany, Georgia. He grew up in a family of artists and writers, and he began drawing and writing at a young age. He studied art at the Rhode Island School of Design and the San Francisco Art Institute. After graduating from college, he worked as a freelance illustrator and designer.

In 2006, Mac Barnett published his first children's book, "Extra Yarn." The book was a critical and commercial success, and it won the Caldecott Award in 2007. "Extra Yarn" tells the story of a young girl named Annabelle who finds a giant ball of yarn. She uses the yarn to help her friends and neighbors, and she eventually creates a beautiful sweater for herself.

Since "Extra Yarn," Mac Barnett has written and illustrated several other award-winning children's books, including "Mac Barnett: The Story of John Brautigan" (2008),"The Slightly True Story of Cedar B. Hartley" (2011),"Sam & Dave Dig a Hole" (2014),and "The Wolf, the Duck, and the Mouse" (2017).

Mac Barnett's books have been translated into over 20 languages, and they have sold millions of copies worldwide. He has won numerous awards for his work, including the Caldecott Award, the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award, and the New York Times Best Illustrated Children's Book Award.

Mac Barnett is a gifted author and illustrator who has created some of the most beloved children's books of all time. His books are full of wit, imagination, and charm, and they are sure to delight readers of all ages.
